A comprehensive resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict (including Lebanon) and closing the circle begun with the Israeli-Egyptian and Israeli-Jordanian peace treaties, is central to promoting US interests in the Middle East. Comprehensive peace would improve US credibility and standing and enhance its capacity to build effective regional alliances. It would make possible a region-wide security framework, that would be a crucial asset in marginalizing extremists and combating Al-Qaeda.

J Street believes that the US should actively promote and facilitate reconciliation between Israel and the Arab world and the establishment of diplomatic relations and relevant security guarantees – in the context of a comprehensive peace agreement. US leadership can be deployed in these efforts to normalize relations between Israel and the Arab world, utilizing the Arab Peace Initiative and helping to create institutional frameworks for regional cooperation.
